Norton Museum of Art

Went to the Norton Museum of Art today… to celebrate some much needed good news that I received today– about a national TV show …. So I took my escape adventure book out- and flipped aimlessly around and landed on…..The Norton… ahhhhh… this place is so beautifully landscaped with peaceful beautiful sculpture gardens. All it really needs is a water fountain and it would complete the tranquil

The main artist featured today was Nick Cave. He is the creator of full body “sound-suits” which are made from layers of metal, plastic, fabric, hair, found objects, and other things that rub together to make noise. Many of Cave’s sound-suits are politically/socially inspired and have deeper meanings than just looking fantastic and making rustle sounds. There are videos of him on the internet. Although I can appreciate his intricate detail in his work, and applaud him for his detail to such fine stitching…we both walked away scratching our heads, not quite understanding what a sound suit really was.

Soon I was wandering into the little nook of a dark room and I found heaven there…
It’s so peaceful and I found myself in this, what I called….a little ‘time out section’ where there were these resting benches and a rain waterfall all around the windows. It was dark and cool and it felt like it was raining. On the ceiling of this room… were the glass sculptures, JUST like the ones at my favorite hotel in Las Vegas. The Bellagio lobby. Now all together, the glass can kind of look really messy and gaudy, but if you look at the blown shaped glass individually, you can see intricate detail and beauty.

In the gift shop lobby, in the high art for sale section, you can purchase the glass blown art, separately. It is quite beautiful as an individual piece.

I was there for two hours, and only had the chance to really see the first level. I saw 3 Picasso’s, A Degas ‘ballerina looking at her foot’ sculpture and a few other favorites happened to be there as well.
