Make it yourself

The hardest thing for me to do is make time to prepare meals. I am in full time training mode now and I have maintained an odd schedule on top of making time for friends and family. The rule before I leave the house is have breakfast. Sometimes I look at the clock and say “there is NO way I have time”. There is a solution for “you don’t have time”.

You just need to make a ton of food, package it up in zippy-locks and freeze it. It’s that simple.

I read a book recently “The House that Cleans Itself”. The title is ridiculous. We would all like to have a house that cleans itself, right??
The principles in the book were brilliant. Basically if you create a process and prepare for every situation in every room you will prevent a mess and disorganization from happening. So I applied the same principle to my kitchen. If I have the tools for breakfast. It is more likely to happen.

First step…I bought a ton of bananas for 19 cents each ( I buy a lot of my fruit and vegetables in bulk from Fresh and Easy or Costco). I cut them up and put them in a zip lock bag in my freezer. If you freeze produce you purchase on the cheap and cut yourself-you will save money and throw out less. The key to the perfect protein shake is frozen fruit. NOT ice . You can use this idea with strawberries & blueberries too.

You can make a shake with a handful of frozen banana slices, a scoop of protein (I prefer Chocolate, vanilla or Strawberry of my favorite brand) and water. This shake will taste as Delicious and have the same consistency that you think only a shake made with milk will have. I have about 1000 shake recipes.

My other secret weapon is oatmeal. Personally I hate oatmeal. I think it looks like barf and you couldn’t pay me to eat it. Unless it has raisins (yellow and black) cranberries and a dash of brown sugar… but that’s out of the question… that’s too much for sugar every day…sooooooooo
I take 1/2 cup-1 cup of rolled oats and put it in a coffee grinder or food processor till it is powdery. I add it to my shake. WA-LA! I had my oatmeal.
